Diego López pips Casillas to starting place

Carlo Ancelotti is quite sure who his first-choice keeper is: Diego López. The Italian decided to keep Iker Casillas on the bench in Granada, just as he did for the opening league game of the season against Betis at the Bernabéu. Two competitive games and no change between the posts.

Iker Casillas remains firmly rooted to the subs bench, just as he was last season under Jose Mourinho. It is clear that he has not gained Carlo Ancelotti's full backing during the early stages of this league campaign.

Prior to the match, Ancelotti said "I prefer to talk to them both beforehand and then make a decision, one which is in no way final." For now, there appears to be no doubt: Diego López is Real's starting keeper whilst Casillas remains on the subs' bench.

Iker has not started a game for Real Madrid for seven months and the 2014 World Cup looms on the horizon. Although Del Bosque showed at the Confederations Cup that Casillas is his first-choice keeper, another season on the bench would greatly complicate his presence in Brazil.

Now, with 2nd September just around the corner, the date on which the transfer window closes, the question is: Could Iker Casillas consider leaving Real Madrid?
